Webinar asincrónico: The influence of school language learning experiences on EFL teachers’ pedagogical beliefs: Does teaching experience matter?

This presentation focuses on the relationship between experienced Ecuadorian EFL teachers’ pedagogical beliefs and their school learning experiences in the English class.

By means of narratives and semi-structured interviews, it was possible to observe that these teachers’ activity during years of teaching EFL was impacting more the way they think about teaching and learning English than what they experienced as school learners.

Thus, this presentation adds evidence on the way teachers are able to re/shape their pedagogical beliefs throughout their teaching career.

• I graduated from the Linguistics applied to English language programme at Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE, Quito, Ecuador in 2018.
• Later, I graduated from the MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at Universidad Andrés Bello, in 2021, where I did work on the relationship between EFL teachers’ school language learning experiences and pedagogical beliefs.
• I have taught general English at primary and secondary levels in several schools.
• Currently, I am a research assistant and doctoral student at Universidad Andrés Bello.
• My main research interests are focused on EFL teachers’ professional development and well-being.
